MICHAEL VERNON KELSEY, SR. is a native Washingtonian. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior on March 31, 1977 and was licensed to preach the Gospel shortly thereafter.

Bishop Kelsey received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Maryland in College Park and went on to receive his formal theological training at Virginia Union University School of Theology in Richmond, Virginia. There he earned the Master of Divinity Degree, Magna Cum Laude. Bishop Kelsey has also received and earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree from The United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He later continued his postgraduate studies at Oxford University in Oxfordshire, England. For the past thirty years he has served as the Senior Pastor of the New Samaritan Baptist Church (NSBC), one of the leading churches in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. Known for his emphasis on order, Bishop Kelsey was appointed as the former State Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship of Washington, DC (2000-2011) under the leadership of Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr., Founder, who is his spiritual father. He currently serves on the Cabinet of Full Gospel as the Executive Treasurer, under presiding Bishop Joseph W. Walker, III. Bishop Kelsey is the founder and CEO of Michael V. Kelsey Ministries which has an international scope where he has ministered the Word of God in many foreign countries, including Ghana and Liberia in West Africa, the Ukraine in Eastern Europe; the Sea of Galilee in Israel; Havana, Cuba; London, England; Ramstein, Germany; and Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica. 

Bishop Kelsey has been married to his wife Elder Sheila Bowens Kelsey for more than 35 years.

Artie L. Shelton, MD, Colonel (ret) U.S Army veteran, is President CEO of Shelton Professional Services. Dr. Shelton is a committed PHEN advocate and serves as PHEN’s Regional Coordinator for the Washington, D.C area. He is a 20-year prostate cancer survivor/warrior and advocate for the Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN). Dr. Shelton was appointed by Governor O’Malley to serve a six-year term as a member of the Maryland Council on Cancer Control and co-chaired writing the prostate chapter for the Maryland Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan Executive Summary. Dr. Shelton has served on the Department of Defense (DoD) Congressional Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) as a consumer reviewer/advocate and on the consumer work group.

Dr. Shelton states that during his person venture, with prostate cancer, he became aware of the magnitude of this disease that is impacting all men, but especially on African American men.

All health organizations must take PHEN’s example in their efforts to combat this disease and potentially cure it if diagnosed early. Faith-based and other organizations need to take advantage of their leadership roles and positions in society to raise public awareness in the fight against prostate cancer.

Dr. Angelo D. Moore is the Director, Office of Health Equity (OHE) at Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) where he provides leadership to achieve the overall Vision and Mission to improve community health by engaging community members.  He collaborates with the Associate Director and Assistant Director, Community Outreach, Engagement, and Equity (COEE) while leading all outreach efforts and programs in the DCI community and across its Catchment Area.

He works with the DCI faculty, staff, stakeholders, and colleagues to lead the community-focused programs which also includes engaging with community partners, building strong, bi-directional partnerships between our community and DCI cancer researchers, and guiding community-DCI partnerships.

COEE goals include engaging with community partners, building strong, bi-directional partnerships between our community and DCI cancer researchers, and developing a multi-level, prospective data infrastructure to guide community-DCI partnerships.

Dr. Moore leads the Community-Facing Navigation program at Duke Cancer Institute, which incorporates Community-Facing Patient Navigators. The responsibilities of Patient Navigators include providing cancer education on prevention, early detection screening, and navigating individuals who need cancer screenings, follow-ups after abnormal screenings, and treatment if diagnosed with cancer.

Dr. Moore is a member of the National Navigation Roundtable Steering Committee.  He is also a member of the Evidence-Based Promising Practices Task Group and the Membership Committee.

Dr. Moore is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing and serves on the America250 Health & Wellness Advisory Council, the National Black Nurses Association Board of Directors, the UNC-CH School of Nursing Alumni Board of Directors, the North Carolina Advisory Council Cancer Coordination Control Early Detection Subcommittee, the North Carolina Historically Marginalized Populations Workgroup, and numerous other committees.

He received a bachelor’s degree in 1995 from Winston-Salem State University, a master’s degree in 2002 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and a Ph.D. in 2010 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served 25 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He has more than 25 years of nursing experience in Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, and Primary Care Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  He has held multiple leadership positions including Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Commander as well as multiple Executive Leadership positions such as Deputy Chief & Chief for the Centers for Nursing Science & Clinical Inquiry and Chief Nurse of Education for the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. He is a board-certified Nurse Executive.

Dr. Moore was awarded the 2002 Distinguished Clinical Performance Award at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the 2004 Outstanding Military RN at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the 2012 National Black Nurses Association Nurse Researcher of the Year, the 2012 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing Graduate of the Last Decade Alumni Awardee, and the 2013 Winston-Salem State University Alumni Achiever Awardee. He was inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit in 2015. In 2021, he was bestowed the Presidential Award from Duke University.

Nashon Hornsby is a first-generation college graduate.  A native of Neptune Township, New Jersey, he earned an associate’s degree in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey in 1990. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Cum Laude, from Morehouse College in 1993. 

Following graduation from Morehouse, he returned to New Jersey and attended Seton Hall Law School where he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a Legal Letter Master (LL.M.) in Health Law.  Licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey, Nashon served in the state of New Jersey for more than 20 years. 

Nashon began his public service tenure as a Senior Policy Advisor to former Health Commissioner Dr. Clifton Lacy.  He then assumed the role of Procedural Safeguards Coordinator for the New Jersey Early Intervention System where he coordinated dispute resolution efforts for the complainants.  Former Governor Jon Corzine also hired him as a Policy Advisor on issues related to health, education, and urban affairs.  Following this role, Mr. Hornsby assumed the post of Chief of Operations of the Department of Health, Division of Family Health Services, where he oversaw operational efficiencies and performance management.

In his current post as Assistant Commissioner for the Division of Community Health Services (CHS), he oversees the Community Health and Wellness (chronic disease control and prevention services) Unit, the Office of Primary Care, and Rural Health and Oral Health Services.

Mr. Hornsby is married to Melissa Dyanne (nee Chisholm) Hornsby and the couple reside in Lawrenceville.  The couple has two adult children and a grandson.

Rev. Willie Bodrick, II, J.D., M. Div., is the Senior Pastor of the Historic Twelfth Baptist Church in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, MA. He became the 14th Senior Pastor in 2021.

Prior to this role, Rev. Bodrick served on the ministerial staff for eight years as a Youth and Young Adult Minister, a Young Adult and College Minister, and, eventually, an Associate Pastor.

Previously, he served as the Director of the Afterschool Program and Summer Enrichment Program for two years, successfully managing both programs and maintaining student and family engagement. Rev. Bodrick has also served as the Vice President of the SAMH Corporation for the past three years, overseeing the church’s housing ministry, thrift shop, youth ministry, and after-school and summer enrichment programs.

Pastor Bodrick led the congregation through the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, which required various operational and fiscal implementations and a manifold of executive decisions that enabled the church to fully function on online platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Zoom, Tithe.ly, and PayPal.

They were able to increase their viewership and engagement to more than 1,000 weekly viewers from across the country and the world. During this difficult time, Pastor Bodrick played an instrumental role in garnering donations and partnerships with corporations, which allowed TBC to give upward of $250,000 to their community during the pandemic.

Rev. Willie Bodrick II was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the eldest son of Rev. Willie Bodrick and Anna Bodrick. Pastor Bodrick matriculated to Georgetown University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in English and Sociology in 2010. Pastor Bodrick continued his studies and graduated in 2014 with a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School. Most recently, Rev. Bodrick graduated in May 2020 with his Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School of Law and is a practicing lawyer at a Boston law firm.

Rev. Bodrick has served on the Transition Team Steering Committee for Suffolk County District Attorney Racheal Rollins, as the Outreach Coordinator in the Community Engagement Division of the Massachusetts Office of the former Attorney General Maura Healey, and as the Senior Advisor for the Ed Markey Campaign for the United States Senate in 2020.

Rev. Bodrick also has extensive experience working in the community, including advocating for public education, public safety, and economic justice while serving as President and Chairperson of the Boston Network for Black Student Achievement (BNBSA) and as a member of the Boston Public Schools Opportunity and Achievement Gap Taskforce.

Rev. Bodrick currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Roxbury YMCA, the Ward 12 Democratic Committee, Boston Bar Association (BBA) Taskforce on Police Accountability, and the MA Attorney General Racial Justice and Equity Council. He is also the Co-Founder of Sustained In the Shutdown Boston.

Rev. Bodrick has also received numerous awards including the 2019 Fletcher “Flash” Wiley Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association Legacy Scholarship Award, the 2019 Citizens for Public Schools Champion for Education Justice Award, the 2020 Eta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Inc. Citizen of the Year Award, the 2020 First District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and the Inc. Citizen of the Year Award.

He was also named one of The Boston Foundations’ 20 Leaders of the 2020s. Pastor Bodrick is also a member of the Boston Branch of the NAACP, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Rev. Bodrick is happily married to Dr. Devin Cromartie Bodrick and is the father of their son Willie Bodrick III. The Bodricks are proud residents of the Roxbury community of Boston.

Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Avery is married to First Lady Addie M. Avery. They are spirituality-led and God-fearing people. They have one son, Reverend Roderick Avery, a daughter-in-law, Reverend Charlotte Avery, and seven beautiful grandchildren.

In June 1980, Dr. Avery answered God’s call to become a minister. Pastor Avery preached his initial sermon at his home church, Wake Baptist Grove, in Garner, North Carolina. He earned a Doctor of Divinity from Newburgh Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana. Also, he earned a Master of Divinity from Shaw University. Since assuming the pastorate of St. Matthew Baptist Church in March 1981, Pastor Avery has devoted himself to building God’s Kingdom through many relative ministries and programs.  He served as the Moderator of the Wake Baptist Missionary Association (WMBA) from 2007 to 2010.

Under the leadership of Pastor Avery, the St. Matthew Baptist Church has grown physically and spiritually. His vision is to inspire a ministry that will be applicable to 21st-century needs and give a better understanding of the work of the invisible church. Pastor Avery has dedicated his life to serving God and His people from generation to generation.  As the St. Matthew Baptist Church moves toward the 21st century, Pastor Avery has God’s given vision to continue to give God all glory as he uses new technology to spread the Word to those of all ages.
