Dr. Dwight C. Jones serves as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of South Richmond, where he will celebrate in November, 47 years of service.  An active public servant, residing in the City of Richmond, Virginia, he has made significant strides and accomplishments in the church, immediate community, the city of Richmond and state of Virginia. Dr. Jones is a prolific orator and visionary leader.  For twenty-five years, he served as Senior Pastor of both First Baptist Church of South Richmond and the St. James Baptist Church in Varina.

While Dr. Jones’ endowment for preaching and teaching has taken him across the country as a guest preacher and lecturer, he has also entrenched himself in the religious, social and political

realms of the City of Richmond. Standing as an ever-present force in working for causes that positively affirm his heritage and beliefs, Dr. Jones’ efforts have impacted the City of Richmond and also the state at large. A diligent advocate of economic empowerment for those who are not in the mainstream, Dr. Jones has been instrumental in effecting change through his various board appointments and other community investments.

Dr. Jones founded the South Richmond Senior Center, the First Baptist Church Child Care Center and the Imani Intergenerational Community Development Corporation—a community-based development corporation committed to the building of affordable housing, revitalization of distressed business areas and business development, as well as workforce initiatives and training. Under Dr. Jones’ leadership, Imani CDC developed a full block of property in the Blackwell community of the City of Richmond, 68 apartments and 23,000 square feet of retail space which has served as a catalyst to bringing businesses back Hull Street.

Dr. Jones was appointed to the Richmond City School Board in 1979 and served as its chairman from 1982-1985. He served in the Virginia State Legislature from 1994-2008, as an honorable member of the House of Delegates serving the 70th district.  During his tenure in the House of Delegates, he served as Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus. 

In 2007, Dr. Jones felt called to serve as Mayor of the City of Richmond and was elected the 79th Mayor of the city of Richmond in November 2008, the second Mayor at Large for Richmond.  Dr. Jones was re-elected in in November 2012.  He focused on “Building a Better Richmond” and successfully led Richmond in laying a strong foundation for a well-managed government, economic growth, building a strong transportation system, creating a sustainable and natural environment and most importantly attacking the city’s 26% poverty rate.

As Mayor, Dr. Jones was dedicated to the cause of making Richmond the premier city in Virginia. During his first term, more than 700 jobs were created, and the city experienced an increase in capital investment of more 981 million dollars. Under his leadership four new schools were built in the Richmond Public School Systems. 

Dr. Jones placed Richmond in the history books with the UCI World Cycling Championship which was held in September 2015.  More than 300 million viewers around the world watched as cyclist raced through the streets of Richmond.  Hence, Richmond is known worldwide!

Dr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Union University. He went on to receive a Master’s of Divinity from Virginia Union University and a Doctorate from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He has three children: Brent, Derik and Nichole and five grandchildren, Bryce, Mandel, Miles, Raegan and Derik II.

Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller is the Senior Pastor of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A highly sought-after revivalist, vocalist, and lecturer, Dr. Waller is a true visionary of the church and the community who serves humanity far beyond the restraints of traditionalism. His partner in marriage and ministry is Dr. Ellyn Jo Waller, the leader of Enon’s Women’s Ministry and a devoted mother to their two daughters, Elynn Morgan and Eryka Lynn.

Since 1994, God’s anointing on Dr. Waller’s pastorate at Enon has been evidenced with unprecedented spiritual and numerical growth. In July 2006, Enon became “one church in two locations” with the development of a new church campus,

which includes a 5000-seat sanctuary, a chapel, a computer lab, classrooms, a Family Life Center (for banquets, a summer sports camp and ministry events), and a “big backyard” for the youth ministry to participate in competitive team sports. To serve a congregation of over 15,000 members, Enon holds three weekend worship services (with internet live-streaming), multiple prayer opportunities, and three weekly Bible studies at Enon and Center City Philadelphia. Dr. Waller draws on his love for people to shape God’s vision for Enon, “A Place Where People Encounter God,” through over 75 innovative ministries. Enon regularly hosts various community awareness events and health and wellness initiatives that offer AIDS testing and other critical health screenings.

Re-elected for a third term in November 2020, Lawson represents Florida’s 5th Congressional District.

Congressman Lawson has devoted more than half of his life to public service and is guided by the belief that the greatest gift an individual can give is service to their community. Lawson has served the people of Florida for 28 years in the state legislature as a member of the Florida House of Representative and the Florida Senate.

Mr. Azell Martin is a thirteen-year prostate cancer survivor and an active member of the PHEN Network in Boston, MA. He received his BA degree from Winston Salem State College in North Carolina and his Masters degree from Goddard College of New Hampshire. Mr. Azell studied labor relations at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He is currently employed with the city of Boston Housing Authority in the office of civil rights. Mr. Azell was an independent businessman for nineteen years in Rocky Mount, NC.

Robert L Waterhouse Jr., MD MBA HSM attended Northwestern University for his undergraduate and medical school education. He completed urology training at Case Western University Hospitals of Cleveland for both residency and a fellowship.  After finishing training, he initially followed an academic career path with the Urology Department at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, as the director of minimally invasive surgery.  He left academic medicine in 1999 to start an independent practice of urology in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, which eventually merged with other groups to become the largest urology group in the Carolinas. With his clinical practice, he focused on urologic oncology with special interest in both prostate cancer and the disparity with outcomes for Black men. As Chief Medical Officer for his group, Research Champion, and Advanced Prostate Cancer Center Director, he developed expertise in prostate cancer including initiating and participating in numerous clinical research studies to investigate challenges around prostate cancer. He transitioned to a role in population health with payers in 2017, with ongoing activities to address health care disparities. In addition, he is one of the founders and executive board members of the Consortium on Disparities in Urologic Cancer.
